Terms of Service

1. Service Description

dbOrbit is a mobile database IDE for iOS and Android. It allows you to connect to, browse, query, and manage databases directly from a phone or tablet, with a touch-first interface. The App connects directly to databases that you specify, using credentials that you provide. We do not host, manage, or have access to your databases. When our hosted database services launch, they will be available to paid tiers.

Currently supported engines

We may add or remove engines over time. See Section 3 for the notice procedure.

2. Subscription Tiers & Payments

dbOrbit offers four tiers:

Payments are processed through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store via RevenueCat. Subscription pricing is displayed before purchase and is denominated in your local currency by the App Store or Play Store. Indie and Enterprise subscriptions auto-renew monthly, and Edu subscriptions auto-renew every 6 months (per semester), unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the renewal date through your App Store or Play Store account settings. Refunds are handled according to Apple's or Google's respective refund policies, not by us directly. We reserve the right to modify pricing with at least 14 days' advance notice via in-app notification.

Legacy one-time and per-seat purchases made under earlier pricing (previously labelled "Indie lifetime" at $4.99 and "Pro" at $3.99 / seat / month) remain honored: those customers are mapped to the Enterprise feature set for the duration of the original entitlement.

3. Engine Support & Service Changes

We reserve the right to add, modify, or discontinue support for any database engine, feature, or hosted service at any time. If we withdraw support for an engine or materially reduce functionality of any tier, we will provide at least fourteen (14) days' prior notice via in-app notification or email.

Withdrawal of engine support does not entitle you to a refund for past renewal periods. Indie, Enterprise, and Edu subscribers may cancel at any time and will not be charged for any future renewal period following cancellation.

We do not guarantee compatibility with every version of every supported database engine. Third-party engine updates, protocol changes, or vendor deprecations may affect functionality outside our reasonable control.

4. User Responsibilities

You are solely responsible for:

You acknowledge that you are solely responsible for any consequences arising from your use of the App, including data loss, corruption, unauthorized disclosure, or regulatory violations.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use dbOrbit to:

6. Account & Authentication

dbOrbit does not require a cloud user account. The App is fully local-first: your PIN, biometric credentials, and recovery email are stored only on your device, encrypted via SQLCipher and the platform's hardware-backed secure enclave. There is no centralized login system, no password reset performed by us, and no server-side identity record we can examine.

Two limited cloud-touching paths exist, both of which are user-initiated:

7. Beta Features

From time to time we may release features marked as "beta", "preview", or "experimental". These features are provided AS IS, may change without notice, may be removed, and are excluded from any service-level commitment. Beta features may have incomplete documentation, reduced reliability, or limited support channels. Use of beta features is entirely at your discretion.

8. Disclaimer of Warranties

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE APP IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

We do not warrant that:

You expressly acknowledge and agree that your use of the App is at your sole risk. No advice or information obtained through the App shall create any warranty not expressly stated in these Terms.

9. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL DBORBIT, METRONIO TECHNOLOGIES, OR THEIR OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AGENTS, PARTNERS, SUPPLIERS, OR LICENSORS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, PUNITIVE, OR EXEMPLARY DAMAGES, INCLUDING DAMAGES FOR:

OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THESE TERMS OR YOUR USE OF THE APP SHALL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF: (a) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO US IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM, OR (b) FIFTY US DOLLARS ($50.00).

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages. In those jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.

10. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless dbOrbit, Metronio Technologies, and our officers, directors, employees, agents, partners, suppliers, and licensors from any claims, demands, actions, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or relating to:

This obligation survives the termination of these Terms and your use of the App.

11. Dispute Resolution & Arbitration

Any dispute, controversy, or claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or your use of the App shall first be attempted to be resolved through good-faith negotiation between the parties for a period of thirty (30) days following written notice of the dispute.

If the dispute cannot be resolved through negotiation, it shall be finally settled by binding arbitration administered in accordance with the rules of the applicable arbitration association in the jurisdiction of our principal place of business.

YOU AGREE THAT ANY DISPUTE-RESOLUTION PROCEEDINGS WILL BE CONDUCTED ONLY ON AN INDIVIDUAL BASIS AND NOT IN A CLASS, CONSOLIDATED, OR REPRESENTATIVE ACTION. You waive any right to participate in a class-action lawsuit or class-wide arbitration against dbOrbit.

Notwithstanding the above, either party may seek injunctive or equitable relief in a court of competent jurisdiction to protect its intellectual-property rights.

12. Intellectual Property

dbOrbit, the dbOrbit logo, and all related trademarks, service marks, trade names, and content are the exclusive property of Metronio Technologies and its licensors. All rights not expressly granted to you in these Terms are reserved.

The App is licensed, not sold. You receive a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App solely for its intended purpose in accordance with these Terms.

13. DMCA / Copyright

We respect the intellectual property rights of others. If you believe that material on dbOrbit infringes your copyright, please send a notice that includes the elements required by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. § 512) to legal@dborbit.io:

Counter-notifications may be submitted to the same address. We may terminate the access of repeat infringers in appropriate circumstances.

14. Export Compliance

dbOrbit uses standard cryptography (TLS via the operating system, AES-256 for local storage via SQLCipher, AES-256-GCM for optional GitHub backup, PBKDF2-SHA256 for PIN hashing). The App is self-classified under U.S. Export Administration Regulations §740.17(b)(1) as eligible for the encryption export exemption, on the basis that the cryptographic functionality is ancillary to the App's primary purpose (database client tooling) and uses publicly available cryptographic primitives.

You represent that you are not located in, under the control of, or a national or resident of any country to which export of the App is prohibited by applicable export-control laws (including U.S. Treasury and Commerce sanctions). You agree to comply with all applicable export laws and regulations in your use of the App.

15. Privacy

Your privacy is governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference. By using the App, you consent to our data practices as described in the Privacy Policy.

16. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the App immediately, without prior notice or liability, for any reason — including a breach of these Terms.

You may terminate your use at any time by uninstalling the App. Upon termination, all locally stored data is deleted with the App. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination — including Sections 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, and 20 — shall survive.

17. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is held invalid, illegal, or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, that provision shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to be valid and enforceable. The remaining provisions continue in full force.

18. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Metronio Technologies regarding dbOrbit, and supersede all prior or contemporaneous communications, proposals, and agreements, whether oral or written.

19. Changes to Terms

We may modify these Terms at any time. Material changes will be communicated via in-app notification and reflected in the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the App after the effective date of any change constitutes acceptance of the modified Terms.

20. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction of our principal place of business, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. Subject to the arbitration provisions in Section 11, you consent to the exclusive jurisdiction and venue of the courts in that jurisdiction for any disputes that proceed in court.
